He first came to prominence in 2017 when he reached the quarter-finals of the PDC World Youth Championship. He went one better in the following year, reaching the semi-finals of the same competition.

In 2018, Humphries earned a tour card through the PDC Qualifying School, which allowed him to compete in professional tournaments. He made an immediate impact, reaching the final of the Players Championship 9, where he lost to Michael van Gerwen.

Humphries continued to impress in 2019, reaching the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix and the last 16 of the UK Open. It seems it all started with the global pandemic. In 2021, the 28-year-old dart player posted a picture of himself showcasing his weight loss and even revealed that she had lost over 2 stones. He wrote,

Really working hard towards the new darting season in a few weeks! Lost over 2 stone since Christmas.. on reflection big changes were needed to myself to get to that next level in my career! I’m practising harder than I ever have.. Hoping the rewards will pay of this year!

Clearly, Luke Humphries wanted to improve his performance in the next darting season. He was pretty sure that he had to change himself to improve his game. As a result, he worked hard with determination and lost weight gradually. The NDC player said it appeared to work for him as he got the extra stamina for the 2021 UK Open.

Losing a bit of weight is a healthy life and a healthy mind. I feel really good, I feel full of energy. The hard work that I’ve putting in through lockdown is helping me in that aspect and hopefully it carries me through to being a better player in the future.
